Question:
I have a Deltec skimmer and the pump runs for a while then stops, why is this?
Answer:
There are a few reasons why the pump may be doing this and it can vary depending on what model you have.
- Check all power connections are good to the pump. Some models have a seporate controller and power supply, any connections to these will also need to be checked.
- Make sure the impeller is clean and free to move. If the impeller has debris caught in it or there is a build up of calcium it can prevent the impeller spinning freely and will stop the pump working properly. For instructions on how to dismantle the pumps look on the product page on this website for the instruction manual.
- If the pump has just been cleaned check that the impeller, shaft, bearings and pump face plate have been installed correctly.
- Most of the pumps have a thermal cut out built in to them as a safety mechanism. If there is a build up of debris or calcium on the impeller this can cause friction, making the pump heat up, the pump will then shut down to try and protect itself. If there is a build up of calcium it is best to soak the components in a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and RO water or with Ezeclean to remove the deposits.
- Inspect the impeller, shaft, bearings, and impeller well for signs of damage or distortion. The magnet on the impeller and the impeller well should be smooth.
