The Deltec protein skimmers will not skim or operate properly in fresh water as the surface tension and density of the water will be wrong. This will cause the bubbles inside the skimmer to be large and the bubble dencity to be low. In most cases the skimmer will also run very noisily.

Once salt is added to the water to normal seawater levels it will operate normally.
