The D-D Aquascape rock is a dry rock and will not have to go through a conventional biological curing process as with live rock, where organisms that are already growing in and on the rock have started to die off in transit and break down. This will then cause an ammonia surge, resulting in the aquarium going through the nitrogen cycle.

You will not however get any bacterial action from the rock initally, as it will be inert, and will need to spend time waiting for the rock to build up bacterial fauna that will allow it to work as a biological filter. The addition of external bacteria, either from a bottle or by introducing media from an established tank, will help to accelerate this process.

With all new tanks, you need to add stock slowly and keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite levels.
