What is the best way to mix the KH Manager Test Reagent to make sure it is correct?
It is very important that the KH Manager Test Reagent is made correctly and stirred thoroughly before use. Failure to do this will cause incorrect or erratic test results.
It is advisable to mix the reagent in small batches as reagent left sanding for long periods of time will become effected by atmospheric gasses and may become unusable. We would recommend 1-5 L at a time should be suitable for most situations.
Mixing quantities
The D-D Concentrated KH Manger reagent should be mixed at a rate of 10ml by volume to 990g by weight of pure water, for example
To mix 1L of reagent – 10ml of D-D Concentrated Test Reagent will need to be added to 990g of pure water.
To mix 2L of reagent – 20ml of D-D Concentrated Test Reagent will need to be added to 1980g of pure water.
To mix 2.5L of reagent – 25ml of D-D Concentrated Test Reagent will need to be added to 2475g of pure water.
If mixing the small 20ml clear sample bottle of reagent that comes with the KH Manager then this entire bottle should be mixed with 980g of pure water.
Method
- Find a suitable clean and dry storage or dosing container. Bottles that have contained carbonated or fruit based liquids will not be suitable.
- Place the scales provided with the KH Manager on a flat, level, and stable surface and turn on, making sure that the scales are set to grams (g).
- Stand the empty container in the centre of the scales and press the Tarre ‘T’ button, the scales should then display a value of 0 grams.
- Add pure RO or deionised water to the container until the scales display the correct water weight for the amount of reagent you are mixing. The scales have a limit of 3000g so if mixing an amount of reagent above 3L it would need to be done in two batches.
- Next add the correct amount of D-D Concentrated KH Manager Reagent to the pure water using a suitable syringe. NEVER USE THE SCALES TO WEIGH OUT THE CONCENTRATED REAGENT AS IT WILL BE INACCURAE A SUITABLE SYRINGE MUST BE USED AT THIS STAGE.
- Thoroughly stir the reagent mix using a clean glass rod or suitable implement.
If the reagent is not being used immediately seal the container and store in a cool, dry and dark position. The concentrated reagent should also be stored in the same conditions.
Once mixed it is possible to check that the reagent is correct using the Reagent Checker Function on the KH Manager, to learn how to do this click HERE.
