The D-D KH Manager is a specialised testing device designed for monitoring carbonate hardness (KH) in saltwater aquariums, maintaining stable KH levels is essential for the health and growth of a marine aquarium. To perform the tests it needs to use a specific reagent, this is available as either a concentrate that needs to be diluted to the correct concentration using pure water (RODI) or a pre-mixed ready to use solution.
D-D Concentrated KH Test Reagent
Available in a 500ml bottle the Concentrated KH Test Reagent is the most economical way of performing testing with the KH Manager. Each concentrate bottle will produce 50 litres of reagent when mixed with pure water (RODI), enough for over 4000 tests at a cost of less than 1p per test.

How to use
It is very important that the test reagent is mixed correctly and stirred thoroughly before use. Failure to do this will cause incorrect or erratic test results. We advisable to mix the reagent in small batches as reagent left sanding for long periods of time will become effected by atmospheric gasses and may become unusable, 1-5 L at a time should be suitable for most situations.
The D-D Concentrated KH Manger reagent should be mixed at a rate of 10ml by volume to 990g by weight of pure water.
Method for making the reagent from concentrate
- Find a suitable clean and dry storage or dosing container. Bottles that have contained carbonated or fruit based liquids will not be suitable.
- Place the scales provided with the KH Manager on a flat, level, and stable surface and turn on, making sure that the scales are set to grams (g).
- Stand the empty container in the centre of the scales and press the Tarre ‘T’ button, the scales should then display a value of 0 grams.
- Add pure RO or deionised water to the container until the scales display the correct water weight for the amount of reagent you are mixing. The scales have a limit of 3000g so if mixing an amount of reagent above 3L it would need to be done in two batches.
- Next add the correct amount of D-D Concentrated KH Manager Reagent to the pure water using a suitable clean syringe. NEVER USE THE SCALES TO WEIGH OUT THE CONCENTRATED REAGENT AS IT WILL BE INACCURAE, A SUITABLE SYRINGE MUST BE USED AT THIS STAGE.
- Thoroughly stir the reagent mix using a clean glass rod or suitable implement.
If the reagent is not being used immediately seal the container and store in a cool, dry and dark position. The concentrated reagent should also be stored in the same conditions.

D-D Ready-to-use KH Test Reagent
Supplied in a 5 litre bottle the ready-to-use reagent has been made to the exact concentration required by the KH Manager so it can be used directly without the need for any mixing and is enough for over 400 tests.
Decant the reagent into a smaller suitable dosing vessel (bottles that have contained carbonated or fruit based liquids will not be suitable), or use directly from the bottle it is supplied in by making a small hole in the cap and inserting the reagent hose from the KH Manager, if doing this make sure the hole is large enough that the hose fits through loosely preventing a vacuum forming in the bottle which could prevent the reagent from being drawn out properly.
